Newton Sparta Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics has been caring for young smiles in Sussex County for years, earning a 4.7-star reputation from 177 local families. Our team understands that kids feel safest when dental visits feel like playtime, so we designed every corner—from the colorful waiting area to the gentle treatment chairs—to ease fears before they start. Dr. Pete's after-hours responsiveness means families never wait in pain; parents regularly share how he returned their call within thirty minutes and guided them through emergencies with calm expertise. We combine advanced pediatric dentistry with early orthodontic evaluations, catching bite issues before they become costly problems. Every hygienist, assistant, and front-desk teammate is trained to speak kid-language while keeping parents fully informed, creating an experience where children leave proud instead of scared.

What We Offer

From first dental visits at age one through full orthodontic treatment, we offer comprehensive care designed exclusively for growing smiles. Our preventive cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants protect teeth before cavities form. When issues arise, we provide tooth-colored fillings, gentle extractions, and space maintainers using techniques that minimize discomfort. Early interceptive orthodontics can correct crowding or bite problems while children still have most baby teeth, often avoiding braces later. For anxious kids we offer nitrous oxide and other kid-friendly options. After regular hours, our emergency line connects families directly with Dr. Pete so urgent concerns receive same-day attention. We also track growth and development at every visit, partnering with parents to build lifelong healthy habits.

"Dr. Pete is AMAZING! My daughter broke her 2 front teeth and when I called the after hours number, Dr. Pete called me back within 30 minutes! After sending him pictures of my daughter’s teeth he suggested I bring her in the office the following day (Sunday). He was so compassionate and explained everything he was doing to my daughter calming her nerves. Later on that night he reached out to check in on my daughter to see how she was feeling. He is such an amazing doctor and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about him. Thank you again Dr. Pete!! 🙂"

"I would not recommend this facility to anyone who is in need of any dental services or assistance. I scheduled an appointment on December 30th 2025 for January 6th 2026. Whichever secretary that had made that appointment took all the information for the patient, insurance, etc and everything was all setup and ready for the 6th. So fast forward to the day, we arrive early and come to find out that apparently there is no appointment in their database? No appointment, none of the patients information, no record in their system, nothing after a nearly 10 min phone call that confirmed the date and the time and all info. I guess this place picks and chooses who they want to give appointments to and who they don’t; which means basically if you have an appointment they’ll cancel yours if they need to fill the spot with someone who they feel is more needing of that appointment. Do not recommend and I will use a dentist who cares and values all of their patients and time."

"Took my son here while we were in the area and he loved everything about this office . The hygienists the dentist down to secretary were amazing in this office . If you have a child and need the dentist this is the office for you ! My son is 7 and he had to have work done that required 2 different sessions and this team is absolutely amazing ! I don’t think my child even flinched during either session . I was amazed by how this professional team worked . So glad I decided to have my son’s dentistry work done here !"

"Dr. Mike and his staff are wonderful, patient, kind, they explain everything step by step and understand a visit can bring many challenges and feelings. Dr. Mike was very honest with my daughter and met her where she was at with her anxiety and tinnitus. This practice is honest and not a fill and drill office. I am so glad we called and had a consultation. The ladies at the front are welcoming, and helpful with any questions and concerns and booking appointments. Dental care is so important and knowing your child is in the best hands is so important. Thank you all for a wonderful experience."

"I haven't been taking my daughter here long, but I want to review based on an emergency situation we had on Saturday. We noticed an abscess on my daughter's front crown Saturday, at like noon (the office closes at 12). I quickly called, and they asked me if i could send a picture right away, and were even going to squeeze us in right away had we not been out of town. Dr. Pete reviewed the picture, called us back within 30 minutes, and immediately sent an antibiotic and a recommendation. I was so comforted by their response and care in the matter. Today is Monday, and I called for a follow-up, and they are getting me right in. I am so happy we chose to bring our little one to this practice. Thank you all for looking out for my peanut!"

Frequently Asked Questions

At what age should my child have their first dental visit?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends seeing children by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth appearing. Early visits help us catch issues before they become painful and allow your child to get comfortable in our office.

Do you see children who are nervous about the dentist?

Absolutely. Our entire team is trained in gentle techniques and positive reinforcement. We offer nitrous oxide when needed and encourage parents to stay with their child during treatment. Most anxious kids leave smiling and ready to return.

How soon can you see us for a dental emergency?

We provide families with an after-hours number that reaches Dr. Pete directly. He typically returns calls within 30 minutes and can often guide you through immediate steps or arrange an emergency visit the same day.

When should we consider orthodontic treatment for our child?

We recommend an orthodontic evaluation by age 7. At this stage we can identify bite problems while many baby teeth remain, allowing simpler, shorter interventions that may prevent the need for braces later.

Do you accept dental insurance?

Yes, we work with most major dental insurance plans accepted in New Jersey. Our team verifies benefits before appointments and files claims for you, so you know your coverage in advance.
